Stephen M. Libman is Co-Founder of the Law Offices of Burnes Libman, which has gained national prominence and local acclaim for jury verdicts and multi-million dollar settlements. Steve specializes in transportation litigation, specifically in handling catastrophic truck crash cases around the country.
 
Steve is the principal founder of the Center for Trucking Safety, a forum where advocates collaborate to improve motor carrier and transportation safety through litigation and legislation. He is recognized for arguing new and innovative theories of liability primarily against brokers and shippers to gain multi-million dollar recoveries on behalf of his clients.

Most recently, Libman gained the national spotlight in three cases. In 2022, he led an $18 million in wrongful death truck crash, a record-recovery for Burnes Libman. During his second successfully obtained a $15.6 million wrongful death settlement in a federal court case against multiple parties, including a motor carrier, a transportation broker and a shipper. In the third, he secured a $12.89 million wrongful death settlement in an oversized truck load case against multiple parties.

In 2017, Steve was appointed President of the Interstate Plaintiffs Trucking Lawyers Association (APITLA), an association dedicated to educating lawyers on trucking issues and improving highway safety. He is a two-time recipient of the Teddy Roosevelt’s “Man in The Arena Award” for attaining an exceptionally high level of professional achievement in the promotion of interstate trucking highway safety. Libman is additionally recognized by the National Trial Lawyers Association as one of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers, and is a Lifetime Member of both the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum. He is also a Lifetime Charter Member of Rue Ratings’ Best Attorneys of America. Libman’s cases have been published and recognized in national publications such as the Chicago Lawyers Magazines “Top 100 settlements and Verdicts in Illinois” several times.
